We have begun to sell beautiful cushions incorporating centre designs of 'Nishjin' textiles, representative of the best Japanese fabrics.

Kimono-cushion

Kimono-cushions are handmade by craftsmen in old fashioned shops, and have traditional Nishijin textiles at the center. The twine incorporates original dyed silk thread in the warp and the woof, and is interwoven with gold and silver thread using special skills and techniques.

Nishijin textile material has been an important silk fabric since the early modern age that began in the middle of the 15th century. It symbolizes Japanese fabric, and is considered to be the best among high quality silk fabrics. It is an especially popular fabric for making the Kimono and its belt.

The Kimono-cushion has three designs: a lucky golden cloud design, a design showing a range of mountains surrounding the old capital, and a mountain image of Arashiyama, including maples. Both sides and the back have four colors: yellowish brown, green, gray, and russet. Please choose the variety you prefer.

  1. Golden cloud design - A design bringing good fortune, made from Shosoin cloth.('Shosoin' is a traditional store place in which the treasures of the eighth century are kept).
  2. Design showing a range of mountains surrounding the old capital - This shows the mountains surrounding Kyoto, said to be the country of mountain castles.
  3. Mountain with maple design - An image including the maples of Arashiyama.
